To attract manpower to work here, the government in Dubai supports all employees working here with its very protective Labor Laws. It directly governs the hours of work, employee leaves, termination rights, medical benefits and repatriation. Usually all employment for foreigners is on contract basis. The Government also makes sure that companies offer employees a vacation of at least 21 days in a calendar year. Vacations can also be pro-rated after the first year. Companies should also give gratuity to all employees after two years of there work. But for the smooth working of organizations, Dubai does not allow trade unions to exist.

Weekdays usually stands from Saturday to Wednesday, Thursday and Friday being holiday. But some companies also work from Sunday to Thursday. The normal working hours are 8 per day, over which employer has to give overtime to the employees. However, these hours may be increased to nine daily for people working in the retail trade, hotels and similar establishments. During the holy month of Ramadan working hours are usually reduced by about three hours a day.

For retail trade working hours are usually in split shifts morning 10am to 12:00pm then from 4:30pm to 10:30pm. But regular offices work from 9.00am to 5.00pm straight with one hour break for lunch.

Offices are world class with superior interiors and comfortable work cabins and offices. Most of the companies offer accommodation for their employees which is very good and well suited to their positions. Recently from 2004 onwards, in the process of encouraging people to spend here, Dubai is allowing expatriates and foreigners to purchase property. Today it has become an ideal place for real estate investments also. Many people including celebrities like David Beckham and Sharukh Khan have purchased villas in Dubai.

Salaries for higher positions compared to other parts of the world are a bit higher. Though day to day living costs are fast becoming expensive, but still many expats can save considerable amounts of money before returning home. The Currency is AED (Arab Emirates Dirham) popularly known as Dirham. One Dirham is about 3.67 USD.
